About us
We are a group of University of Tennessee students teamed up to gather donations for the kids of the Boys and Girls club of the Tennessee valley. Our purpose was to raise awareness and gather donations for the club through our supply drive event.
More children are alone and unsupervised after school than ever before. The Boys and Girls Club is an organization that is looking to engage with and uplift children of all ages. Their main goal is to guide kids in the right direction through their fun and educational programs and services. They also make it possible for the kids to participate in military youth programs (Kozaryn).
ABOUT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
"Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."
There are five core program areas including:
Character & Leadership Development
Education & Career Development
Health & Life Skills
The Arts
Sports, Fitness, & Recreation
The boys and girls clubs offer after school and summer programs, which is when they are needed most. The members are taught to live the life of a responsible, successful citizen. Many of the children live in food-insecure households households and food desert areas, so the boys and girls club offers hot meals and snacks to their members. There is also the Richard L. Bean detention center to help children already headed in the wrong direction in life, kids who have already acquired criminal records.
The organization as a whole serves nearly 4 million boys & girls (statistics from BGCA.org)
Over 4,100 locations across the United States
Locally, the Tennessee Valley locations serve 6,300 members across 19 different clubs. (statistics from BGCTNV.org)
